Idris Elba has a response for James Bond "too street" comment

It took a couple of days, but actor Idris Elba has responded to James Bond author Anthony Horowitz's comment that he's "too street" to play 007.

"Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!! #septemberstillloveyou," Elba, 42, wrote on Instagram Thursday.

Horowitz had said the Golden Globe winner -- a longtime fan favorite to play Bond -- was "a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond."

He subsequently issued an apology admitting, "I am mortified to have caused offence." He went on to say that it was a poor choice of wording.

Meanwhile, the next Bond film "Spectre," starring Daniel Craig, opens on Nov. 6.
