(CBS) Prince William and Kate are spending their first Valentine's Day as a married couple apart - she is in the U.K. while he has been deployed to the Falkland Islands for a six-week military mission.

But that doesn't mean the Duchess of Cambridge will have nothing to do. The 30-year-old is set to embark on her first series of solo engagements while her husband is away.

On Feb. 14, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail, Kate will head to Liverpool, England, to visit an alcohol-free bar that is linked to the charity Action on Addiction, which she was named patron of last month.

That same day, she will tour the Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hay Children's Hospital, where she'll meet staff and families and take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Mail reports.

She'll reportedly finish her Valentine's Day engagements with a tour of the hospital's facilities, including the oncology and burn units.

The duchess is scheduled to visit the National Portrait Gallery, of which she is also patron, on Feb. 8. While there, she'll take in a private viewing of work by the late artist Lucien Freud, the Mail reports.

A royal aide told the paper that Kate is looking forward to her first solo engagements.

"With her husband away, it is a perfect opportunity for her to strike out on her own," the source said.

And the duchess won't be totally alone while William's away - she'll have the couple's new cocker spaniel puppy to keep her company.
