The probate documents filed last month with her will in Orange County Superior Court estimate her estate to be worth $1,496,000, The News and Observer reports.
Since Edwards died in 2010, her three children will not have to pay federal estate taxes because Congress had not reinstated the expired law at the time. Also, Congress passed a $5 million tax exemption last month.
According to the report, property records show that Edwards owns a 28,000-square-foot home in Chapel Hill valued at $6.75 million and a smaller home she bought for $1.2 million two months before she died.
In her five-page will, which was released Wednesday, Edwards, who died after a long battle with breast cancer on Dec. 7, left everything to her children and named her oldest daughter, Catherine, as the executor of her estate and the guardian for her younger children, Emma Claire, 12, and Jack, 10.
She made no mention of her estranged husband, former presidential candidate John Edwards, in the will.
His personal fortune is estimated at $29.5 million to $62 million, according to a 2006 public financial disclosure.
