Deputies: 1 dead, 1 wounded in Tampa hospital shooting

TAMPA, Fla. -- A man fatally shot a woman at a Florida hospital where she was a visitor and then turned the gun on himself Monday morning, authorities said.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Alonna Tedesco, but the shooter's name has not been released.

Tedesco was shot on the third floor of Florida Hospital, north of downtown Tampa, then was rushed to the emergency room, where she later died, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Col. Donna Lusczynski said.

The shooter and victim were not current employees or patients at the hospital, Lusczynski said, and deputies are in the process of talking with family members and staff.

"We treated it as an active shooter since we had so many calls about shots," she said. "There was a lot of chaos just to make sure all the patients were okay."

The shooting was contained to the hospital room, Lusczynski added.

The hospital is not on lockdown, and other than the immediate area of the shooting, the hospital is operating as usual.

Lusczynski said the shooting is being treated as a murder-suicide, but "it is very early in our investigation."

She said there are security cameras through much of the hospital and that investigators are in the process of looking for video that could help in their investigation.
