Cops: Girl, 10, did all the right things when approached by stranger

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Police in a Fort Worth suburb are touting the actions of a young girl who was approached by a stranger and who they say did everything right, reports CBS DFW.

The incident happened Wednesday when a man driving a gold-colored SUV tried to lure the 10-year-old girl in North Richland Hills, Texas to come near his vehicle, which was parked across the street from a school bus stop.

But when the man told the girl to "come here," she walked away instead, according to the station.

The driver then followed her, but the girl was smart enough to buy herself some time because the direction she walked in forced the driver to turn around.

As he did, the girl tried to flag down a passing motorist. When the motorist failed to stop, the girl retreated into a driveway and pulled out her phone to call for help, reports the station.

The girl was left unharmed. Police are now warning people to be aware of this suspicious behavior and to tell their children what this girl did to stay safe.

"Teach your children to be safe. Tell them to look around where they're at. If they get the feeling something is going on or something is wrong they need to pay attention to those feelings," North Richland Hills Police Spokesman Keith Bauman said, according to the station.
