(CBS/WBBM) CHICAGO - A Chicago man who had been out of prison less than six months allegedly beat an elderly woman to death and then used her wedding rings to propose to his girlfriend five days later, according to CBS affiliate WBBM.

Raymond Harris, 36, is now charged with first-degree murder and robbery and being held without bail for the death of Virgina Perillo, 73.

Police said that Perillo, a nurse of 40 years, had been returning home from visiting her husband in the hospital when Harris allegedly attacked her in her garage.

Harris was paroled in May after serving 14 years of a 30-year sentence on attempted murder and aggravated arson.
