CBS launches "Volunteering with the Stars" initiative
CBS viewers now have a way to both give back and get closer to some of their favorite celebrities and TV personalities.
On Monday, CBS EcoMedia announced the launch of the "Volunteering with the Stars" program, a new digital initiative that connects viewers to stars and some of the country's leading nonprofits -- all with the shared goal of giving back.
Jeff Probst of "Survivor," Phil Keoghan of "The Amazing Race" and "Entertainment Tonight" hosts Kevin Frazier and Nancy O'Dell are among the first batch of stars taking part.
The new "Viewers to Volunteers" (or V2V) app allows you to connect with stars and charities without spending your own money. Instead, the goal is to view and share inspirational stories via the new app. For every video watched and story clicked users generate points they can then use to support causes or specific participating nonprofits. The efforts, in turn, will be translated into actual contributions from sponsors.
"This is a unique new program that, at its heart, allows every viewer to be a philanthropist, but without spending their own money," said Paul Polizzotto, founder and president of CBS EcoMedia.
"I've always been passionate about storytelling with a conscience and using filmmaking to give a voice to the voiceless," said filmmaker Morgan Spurlock. "Viewers to Volunteers not only gives us the opportunity to share inspiring stories about local heroes who are doing great things in their communities, but it also allows us to propel people to action. By watching our videos and original content, viewers can directly support causes and nonprofits they feel passionate about, and that's pretty amazing."
The "Viewers To Volunteers" app is available to download for free from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or at the Viewers to Volunteers website.
