NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Murder suspect Juanell Darrough did not have much to smile about after his day in court.
When Darrough, who is charged with killing 22-year-old Alex Pace, walked into the courtroom smiling at the victim's family, Pace's father jumped the rail and punched Darrough in the face.
The courtroom immediately erupted into mayhem. At one point during the melee, a defense attorney took cover under a table and a prosecutor in the courtroom started pulling people into a hallway to protect them. The judge and courtroom officer were fruitless in their attempts to control the brawl.
Pace's father was eventually arrested, along with another family member. At least one person was Tasered.
Only one officer was in the court room at the time, but the district's sheriff said he would appoint more in the future.
