Boy wears blackface for MLK history report

(CBS News) A second grader's makeup for a school project is stirring up controversy in Southern Colorado.

CBS News affiliate KKTV reports Meridian Ranch Elementary School student Sean King dressed up as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as part of a living wax museum assignment for history class. He used make-up to darken his face.

A school spokesperson told KKTV a complaint led the principal to determine the costume was a disruption.

"They wanted me to clean up immediately or leave," Sean said. The boy's parents took him home.

There's no word on whether the boy's grade will be affected.
