Bird Grounds Oprah's Jet

Oprah Winfrey arrives at the Legends Ball in this May 14, 2005 file photo, in Santa Barbara, Calif. In 1988, Winfrey, dressed in skinny jeans and a long-sleeve dark top, wheeled a wagon loaded with fat onto the set of her show to represent her recent 67-pound weight loss.

Oprah Winfrey's private jet was forced to return to the Santa Barbara airport following a mid-air collision with a bird.

Neither the talk show diva nor her boyfriend, Stedman Graham, was injured in the incident that occurred shortly after takeoff Monday afternoon.

The GulfStream jet will be grounded until the windshield is repaired.

John Ahlman of the Santa Barbara Fire Department says it's not unusual for planes to collide with birds.

In August 2000, a KLM Airlines jumbo jet made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport after a bird strike damaged an engine on takeoff, causing pieces of it to plummet onto a beach just west of the airfield.
