Beyonce Bubbly Over Oscar, Globe Talk

Beyonce Knowles is a nine-time Grammy winner, but when she put her singing and acting talent together, it brought her two Golden Globe nominations for her starring role in the long-awaited movie musical "Dreamgirls."

It's also sparking lots of Oscar buzz for her.

"Oh, god, it's crazy, you know, and just being associated with anything that has any type of Oscar buzz, or Golden Globe nominations is nuts!" Beyonce told The Early Show co-anchor Rene Syler Friday. … I'm so grateful and never, ever thought I would say that, or be, you know, so excited!"

Her Globe nods were for her acting and the song "Listen," which she co-wrote.

"I cannot believe that I'm nominated for a Golden Globe," Beyonce marveled. "It sounds crazy. I can't even say it without smiling so hard!"

She left no doubt this was a dream part for her, telling Syler she "absolutely" wanted in, adding, "I've have been hearing about this musical since I was 15-years-old. I was so excited. I knew this would be relevant and historical and, especially for black actors, we don't have these opportunities, these big productions, in something so positive and something that you leave the theater feeling like you can accomplish anything. I just wanted to be a part of it. I didn't care if it was for five minutes. I didn't care what I had to do. I just wanted to be a part of it."

Dreamgirls opened on Broadway in 1981, the year Beyonce was born.

It's loosely based on the story of the Supremes, and Beyonce told Syler she ran into Dianna Ross recently at a party.

"She didn't say anything about the film, but I had been studying her, and it was almost like she wasn't real. She was so extraordinary and so beautiful and so talented. Her voice, her tone is so amazing, and she was sitting right there. And I'm like, 'Oh, my God, I can't look at her. Like, I'm so, I'm star-struck.' I had met her before, but now I have a whole new respect for her. And she turned and she saw that I was too scared to look and she came over, which was so nice and generous. And she said that she was a fan, and just was very, very sweet."

Dreamgirls stars Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy, amlng others, and Beyonce says that left her amazed, as well: "Oh, my God! Imagine! I grew up watching all of Eddie's work and now we were all in, you know, he's right there! He was him hilarious and just cool and calm and very talented."

Beyonce says seeing herself in Dreamgirls takes her aback: "It's amazing, when I'm in the theater and I'm watching it, I do not recognize myself. You know, we had the eyebrows and no makeup and wigs. It was so -- it was the best experience working with the ladies and becoming someone completely different from myself."
