SHIRLEY, Mass. (CBS/AP) Allison Myrick, a Fitchburg State College freshman, was found stabbed to death over the weekend and police say her wounded boyfriend is a "person of interest."

The Middlesex district attorney's office says 19-year-old Myrick was found stabbed to death Saturday night at a Shirley home, about an hour west of Boston. Authorities say 19-year-old Robert Gulla was picked up at the same site with stab and gunshot wounds. He was flown to a Worcester hospital.

Authorities describe Gulla as a "person of interest" in the slaying, although nobody had been charged. The Boston Herald describes Gulla as Myrick's former boyfriend. The couple split a month ago, according to the paper.

Myrick's parents said in a statement that their "intelligent, creative, funny, compassionate, beautiful" daughter was in an abusive relationship.

"Please take this as an example that this can happen to anyone, they wrote. "If you are in a situation that is in any way abusive, no matter how small it may seem at first, please ask for help."

The death remains under investigation. The college is providing counseling services for students.
