Alabama mom shot dead holding her newborn in her arms
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Police in Alabama are asking for the public's help in finding the gunman who fatally shot a woman who was holding her 10-day old son.
Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams says the victim, identified as 24-year-old Sherri Williams, was holding her baby and standing in the doorway of her apartment in the Gate City neighborhood when shots rang out Monday afternoon.
Officials say two men at a nearby store got into a fight. One of the men chased the other down the street and fired a gun as he ran.
Authorities say Williams was hit by a stray bullet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Birmingham News reports the bullet hit Williams in the chest.
Sgt. Williams told the newspaper Sherri Williams had fallen onto a couch, her newborn child still in her arms.
