(CBS/AP) HARVEY, La. - The mother of missing 6-year-old Ahlittia North says Jefferson Parish authorities have found the body of her daughter in a Harvey, La. trash bin.
The girl was reportedly last seen by her parents Friday night, and when her stepfather woke up on Saturday morning he realized she had vanished.
Ahlittia disappeared from her apartment late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Deputies have said someone also took her brown and plaid comforter, a toothbrush and toothpaste.
According to CBS affiliate WWLTV, Ahlittia's body was found in a dumpster at the end of the apartment complex where she lived at around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The station reports authorities have been questioning neighbors regarding the case and identified 20-year-old Matthew Flugence, nephew of the girl's stepfather, as the person of interest, police say. His exact connection to the case was unclear.
Flugence has an outstanding warrant for an alleged sexual battery of an 11-year-old girl and police are now trying to locate him, reports the station.
It wasn't clear early Tuesday whether investigators had previously searched the bin where the body was found.
