Abandoned Texas baby found alive in plastic bag, police say

(CBS) HOUSTON - Police in Texas are investigating after an a baby girl was found abandoned, alive and wrapped in a plastic bag on Tuesday evening.

According to CBS Houston, the infant was found by a resident from a nearby building who was walking her dogs.

The Houston Chronicle reports that one of the woman's dogs became interested in a Wal-mart bag by a tree, and when she looked inside she found the newborn.

Officials from the Harris County Sheriff's Office say the umbilical cord was still attached to the girl, and that emergency responders clamped it off, CBS Houston reports. They say the infant is in now good condition.

The baby was being transported to Texas Children's Hospital for observation and medical evaluation as the Harris County Sheriff's Office Crimes against Children Unit continues to process details of the investigation, CBS Houston reports.
