1906 White Sox 4, Cubs 2 The Chicago Series appears a mismatch as the Cubs had set a MLB record with 116 regular-season wins. The White Sox won just 93 games, and were known as "the Hitless Wonders" by virtue of their .230 team batting average. 1921 Giants 5, Yankees 3 For the first time in World Series history, all the games are played in the same park as the Yankees and the Giants shared the New York City Polo Grounds at the time. 1944 Cardinals 4, Browns 2 All of the games are played at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis. Many of MLB's biggest stars are serving in the armed forces as World War II rages in Europe and the Pacific Ocean. The Browns' George McQuinn has a Series-high average of .438 in a losing effort. 1947 Yankees 4, Brklyn. Dodgers 3 Cookie Lavagetto's two-run double in the ninth inning of Game Four ends Yankee pitcher Bill Bevens' bid to throw the first no-hitter in Series history, and also brings Brooklyn a 3-2 victory. In Game 7 the Dodgers grab a 2-0 lead in the second inning but it is all Yankees the rest of the way to clinch the Series with a 5-2 victory. (best of 7 games series)

1949 Yankees 4, Brklyn. Dodgers 1 Casey Stengel, in his first season as the Yankees' manager, wins his first World Series while Brooklyn loses its fifth World Series. The first four games are nail-biters, but the Yankees explode in Game 5, taking a 9-2 lead and then holding on for a 10-6 win. (best of 7 games series)

1951 Yankees 4, Giants 2 Game Six marks Joe DiMaggio's last World Series appearance and final Major League game. In Game Two, Mickey Mantle, playing in his first World Series, trips over a drainage outlet, sustaining a knee injury that would haunt his career. It is also the first World Series for Willie Mays.
