Nguyen Van Thieu
Thieu served brefly in the Vietminh before joining the Vietnamese army created by the colonial French. He trained in France and later in the United States, and once he returned maneuvred to become president in 1967. Indecisive and distrustful, he was unable to rule after 1973 and fled Vietnam just before the fall of Saigon in April, 1975. Source: |
