Mao Zedong
The Chinese Communist Party chairman first warned North Vietnamese against negotiating with the U.S, then invited U.S. President Richard Nixon to Beijing in February, 1972 to help push for a rapid end to the conflict in Indochina. His prime minister, Zhou Enlai, held talks with U.S. national security advisor Henry Kissinger and was able to begin the early settlements that would eventually end the war. Source: |
