MAYOR: CHARLOTTE

- Mayor Pat McCrory won a record sixth term against an opponent who garnered the highest percentage of votes of any of the Republican's opponents.

CANDIDATES

  • Republican Mayor Winner: Patrick McCrory ran for his sixth term. Prior to that, McCrory and two former mayors were the only mayors to serve four terms. McCrory was elected as an at-large city council representative in his first run for an elected office. He served as mayor pro tem in 1993 until he became mayor in 1995.
  • Democrat Craig Madans, 54, has run against McCrory in 1989 and 2003. He is a business owner who considers himself a fiscal conservative and has been courting the Republican vote. He won his party's primary in September.
