MAYOR: CHARLOTTE
- Mayor Pat McCrory won a record sixth term against an opponent who garnered the highest percentage of votes of any of the Republican's opponents.
CANDIDATES
Republican Mayor Winner: Patrick McCrory ran for his sixth term. Prior to that, McCrory and two former mayors were the only mayors to serve four terms. McCrory was elected as an at-large city council representative in his first run for an elected office. He served as mayor pro tem in 1993 until he became mayor in 1995.
Democrat Craig Madans, 54, has run against McCrory in 1989 and 2003. He is a business owner who considers himself a fiscal conservative and has been courting the Republican vote. He won his party's primary in September.
