March 21, 2005:

A heavily armed teen accused of killing his grandparents smiled and waved during a shooting rampage at a high school at Red Lake Indian Reservation in far northern Minnesota. When the shooting stopped, 10 people were dead, including the gunman's grandfather, his grandfather's wife, a school security guard, a teacher; and five students. At least 14 others were wounded, officials said. Police said the gunman, who a school board member identified as Jeff Weise, killed himself after exchanging fire with officers.

School board member Kathryn Beaulieu said the 17-year-old student had been placed in the school's Homebound program for some violation of policy. She said she didn't know what Weise's violation was, and wouldn't be allowed to reveal it if she did.
