All information comes from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, which published the 2007 edition of "Crime in the United States," a statistical compilation of reports submitted by law enforcement agencies.
More than 17,700 city, county, state, tribal, federal and university and college law enforcement agencies representing more than 95 percent of the country's population voluntarily participates in the UCR Program.
