Bin Laden has been connected to the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in the Yemeni port city of Aden. Seventeen U.S. sailors were killed. It is believed he was also involved in the failed attack on the USS Sullivan earlier in the year.
Yemeni officials reportedly sought INTERPOL's assistance to apprehend bin Laden in 1994. Bin Laden claims to have conducted three bombings targeted against the U.S. troops in Aden in December 1992.
His organization has reportedly sent trainers to Yemen.
