Ali Saleh, a member of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad group, (a group believed to be closely associated with bin Laden) is believed to have planned the Aug. 7, 1998, U.S. embassy bombing in Nairobi.
A simultaneous bombing shook the U.S. embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. At least 247 people were killed, including 12 Americans, and more than 5,000 were injured.
Bin Laden is directly charged with helping plan the twin bombings and train terrorists in explosives used in the attacks.
