Indonesia

With a population that's over 90 percent Muslim, the Indonesian government has been wary of challenging any Muslim group. However, a blast that killed over 180 people, mostly tourists, in Bali on Oct. 12, 2002, was linked to al Qaeda by the country's defense minister.

Suspicions focused on Jemaah Islamiyah, a group based in central Java that wants to establish a pan-Islamic state across Malaysia, Indonesia and the southern Philippines. The group has trained members in bin Laden's terror camps and has plotted to bomb U.S. embassies in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Also in Singapore, they filmed plans to murder American sailors at a bus stop and blow up U.S. warships.

At least two other groups here, the Islamic Defenders' Front and Laskar Jihad, are also believed to have received funding from bin Laden.
