AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa has become what leprosy was to medieval Europe - only more deadly. In an effort to dispel the myths and prejudices surrounding the disease, experts from around the world gathered in Durban at the 13th Annual International AIDS Conference - whose theme was "Break the Silence" - the first time the gathering has been held on the continent most ravaged by the disease.
