Will Smith holds up two of the three awards he won at The American Music Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Jan. 11, 1999. Smith won awards for Pop Rock Favorite Album, Soul, Rhythm and Blues Favorite Album, plus Favorite Male Artist. Smith launched a solo career in 1997 after recording several hits in the '80s and early '90s as "The Fresh Prince" with Jeff Townes, also known as "DJ Jazzy Jeff."
