The 60-year-old Italian-born woman, elected president of the Indian National Congress in 2005, is No. 8 on the Forbes list. Born Sonia Maino, in a small Italian town outside Turin on Dec. 9, 1946, she married into India's premier family -- the Nehru-Gandhis -- in 1958. After the death of her husband, Rajiv Gandhi, she spent years in seclusion before entering into public life.
