Iraq Shrine Hit Again Photos

The two minarets of the Golden Dome Shiite shrine of the Askariya in the city of Samarra, north of Baghdad, Iraq, was bombed by insurgents Wednesday, June 13, 2007. An important holy site in Shia Islam, the shrine's dome was originally bombed and destroyed on February 22, 2006 by militants believed to be linked to al Qaeda. The 2006 bombing triggered a wave of sectarian violence.
