Oregon
Senate - Winner: Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden
Though the Republican Party is usually competitive in Oregon, the GOP failed to attract a serious challenger to Sen. Wyden, who was seeking his second full term. Wyden was elected to the Senate in 1996 after a special election to replace Republican Bob Packwood, who resigned on the recommendation of the Senate Ethics Committee. Al King, a local GOP official, beat five opponents to win the Republican primary but had a hard time up against incumbent Wyden, who won his first full terms with 61 percent of the vote.
House: Oregon has five House districts. The lineup was four Democrats and one Republican. All five incumbents were running for re-election.
