Iowa
Senate - Winner: Republican Sen. Charles Grassley
Grassley was elected to the Senate in 1980 and is chairman of the Finance Committee. He was closely involved with President Bush’s tax cuts and the Medicare prescription drug plan. Grassley’s campaign war chest, high job ratings, and longstanding record led to few Democratic challengers. Former state Sen. Arthur Small accepted the challenge this time with a campaign slogan: “Think big, vote Small.”
House: Iowa has five House districts. The lineup was four Republicans and one Democrat. All incumbents were running for re-election.
Winners:
District 1 - Jim Nussle, GOP (i)
District 2 - Jim Leach, GOP (i)
District 3 - Leonard Boswell, Dem (i)
District 4 - Tom Latham, GOP (i)
