Robert Downey Jr., nominated for best actor in a supporting role for his work in "Tropic Thunder," arrives at the Academy Award luncheon in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009. Downey was born April 4, 1965 in New York, N.Y., the younger of two children. His father, Robert Downey, is an actor, writer, producer, cinematographer, and director of underground films, and his mother, Elsie, is also an actress.
