Rosie O'Donnell, shown in a publicity photo, got her big break came on "Star Search," where she was a five-time comedy winner. That led to a job as the producer and host of VH1's "Stand-Up Spotlight" in the late '80s. Film and stage work followed before she launched her TV talk show in 1996. Soon after, Newsweek magazine dubbed her "The Queen of Nice."
