RCC Member, known as "Chemical Ali" for his use ofpoison gas against Iraq's Kurds. Reports that he was killed in a coalition airstrike on his home in Basra, April 5, 2003, proved false. U. S. officials reported having him in custody on Aug. 21, 2003.
