Police: Mom Armed Bullied Son with BB Gun, Knife

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS/AP) Sylvia Mojica is facing charges for allegedly sending her 12-year-old son to school with a BB gun and a folding knife so he could protect himself from bullies.

Police say the 38-year-old Hartford mother has been charged with risk of injury to a minor. Administrators say her son now faces a suspension or even expulsion, and they are also investigating the bullying allegations.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino announced on Thursday the arrest of a suspect in the March. 15 slaying of Arthur Downey.

MENTOR, Ohio (CBS/AP) Sladjana Vidovic's body lay in an open casket, dressed in the sparkly pink dress she had planned to wear to the prom. Days earlier, she had tied one end of a rope around her neck and the other around a bed post before jumping out her bedroom window.

The 16-year-old's last words, scribbled in English and her native Croatian, told of her daily torment at Mentor High School, where students mocked her accent, taunted her with insults like "Slutty Jana" and threw food at her.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBS/AP) In the wake of Tyler Clementi's suicide, Sen. Frank Lautenberg says colleges and universities should adopt a code of conduct to prohibit bullying and harassment in all forms.

At a town meeting Wednesday night in memory of the Rutgers University freshman who jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge, Lautenberg, D-N.J., said he will introduce legislation to require schools to put such policies in place.
