BOSTON (CBS/WBZ/AP) Philip Markoff, the Boston University medical student suspected of being the "Craigslist killer" has been found dead in his jail cell after an "apparent suicide."

Ed Geary, Deputy Director of External Affairs at the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office in Massachusetts told CBS News that Markoff was pronounced dead by medics at 10:17 a.m. on Sunday.

Sources tell CBS affiliate WBZ that the former Boston University medical student cut an artery in his leg and bled to death. The Boston Globe reports he was also found with a plastic bag over his head.

ATLANTA (CBS/AP) A man who pleaded guilty to posing as a potential condo buyer and killing prominent cancer researcher Dr. Eugenia Calle will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The epidemiologist, who had just recently retired from her post at the American Cancer Society at age 57, was found slain in her high-rise condominium in midtown Atlanta in February 2009, reports The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Shamal Thompson was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to a single count of murder.

Salt Lake City police say 61-year-old Ronald Lindsley was working at a gas station convenience store when he saw a man take two beers and leave the store without paying. Police say he pursued the suspected beer bandit, who was riding a bicycle, and hit him.Continue »

BAY POINT, Calif. (CBS/KPIX) A California man was arrested on suspicion of murder, evasion and weapons charges after allegedly leading California Highway Patrol officers on an extensive car chase Wednesday afternoon.

The ordeal began late afternoon Aug. 11 when the Contra Costa County sheriff's office received two calls indicating a home in Bay Point had been burglarized and that a resident inside was shot.
