Cops: 8 Yr. Old Randomly Stabbed at NY Eatery

WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBS/WCBS/AP) Police say a man carrying a hunting knife crept up behind an 8-year-old boy playing a video game in a Long Island Dave and Buster's restaurant and plunged a 4-inch blade into his back five times.
The boy suffered a punctured lung in the assault just before 8:30 p.m. Friday in a Westbury, N.Y. shopping mall.

But they didn't expect the chaos they found inside after kicking down the door because no one responded, police said. Unconscious and semi-unconscious party-goers were scattered throughout the home.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (CBS/WBTV) Neal Cassada, Jr., one of two men accused in the strangling death of Ira Yarmolenko, a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student, died just hours prior to the start of his murder trial in Gaston County, say reports.
Cassada, 55, was scheduled to appear in court Monday for the 2008 murder of 20-year-old Yarmolenko, whose body was found next to her car on the shores of the Catawba River in Mount Holly, about three hours from the state's capital.

NEW YORK (CBS/WCBS/AP) Eight of the nine suspects in a brutal Bronx gang assault were arraigned on Sunday, making their first court appearance.
The gang members used an anti-gay slur to ask two teen boys and a 30-year-old man about their sexuality, before brutally torturing and beating them last week in a working-class Bronx neighborhood, authorities said in court.
