Obama Compares Fox News to Talk Radio

(AP Photo/Alex Brandon)
President Obama did not back down from his advisers' recent criticism of Fox News in an interview with NBC's Savannah Guthrie Wednesday.

The cable network's conservative commentators regularly criticize the president in harsh terms and the outlet often zeroes in on stories that cast the White House in a negative light.

"What our advisers have simply said is that we are going to take media as it comes," Mr. Obama said. "And if media is operating, basically, as a talk radio format, then that's one thing. And if it's operating as a news outlet, then that's another."

"But it's not something I'm losing a lot of sleep over," he added.

The president argued that the controversy over the White House's recent criticism of Fox News – first voiced by White House communications director Anita Dunn, who called Fox News "a wing of the Republican Party," and later by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Senior Adviser David Axelrod – is largely a Washington phenomenon.

"I think the American people are a lot more interested in what we're doing to create jobs or how we're handling the situation in Afghanistan," he said.

On that front, the president told Guthrie that his administration may decide on its Afghanistan strategy before the runoff election between incumbent president Hamid Karzai and challenger Abdullah Abdullah on November 7th.

"I think it is entirely possible that we have a strategy formulated before a runoff is determined, we may not announce it," he said.

Mr. Obama also talked about the relationship between men and women, urging young husbands to "understand the incredible juggling act that moms are going through every day."

Before he became president, he said, there was "a lot of negotiations" between Mr. Obama and his wife Michelle.

"Because Michelle was trying to figure out, okay, if the kids get sick, why is it that she's the one who has to take time off of her job to go pick them up from school, as opposed to me?" he said. "If, you know, the girls need to shop for clothes, why is it that it's her burden and not mine?"

The president also joked that he is "surrounded" in an all-female household, with the exception of the family dog. "It's me and Bo," he said.

"What I've tried to do was to learn to be thoughtful enough, and introspective enough, that I wasn't always having to be told that things were unfair," said the president. "And then once in awhile, I'd actually voluntarily say, 'You know what? Let me relieve this burden on you. Let me make some sacrifices, in terms of how I'm using my time.' But, you know, there's no doubt that our family, like a lot of families out there were ones in which the men are still a little obtuse about this stuff."

He said he still needs "to be knocked across the head every once in awhile, in terms of, you know, making sure that everybody is treated fairly."

"The truth is, Michelle still had to make sacrifices of the sort that I did not have to make," he added.

The president was also asked about a basketball game he recently held at the White House where all the participants were men. He called criticism of the guest list "bunk" and said the invitees had simply been the regulars at the House of Representatives' pick-up game.

"I don't know if there are women who - were Members of Congress who play basketball on a regular basis," Mr. Obama said. "I don't think there are. You know, I don't think sends any kind of message or signal whatsoever."

It would seem that "pubsruineverything" takes issue with a difference of opinion..that's okay, what works for you, doesn't neccessarily work for me, and hopefully, our paths will never cross! As for a ton of other stories, have a tendency to read those with a conservative bent, with a slight twist of liberalism...not everyone is a republican...get over the demonizing!

"heywerestrongandgood" succinctly says it as it is, the news networks do not present the "information" in an unbiased fashion, its all parceled-out, in the same manner of the "infamous Tokyo-Rose"...its all ment to cover with a "cloud-of-doubt"...it's what they do best, "DIVIDE-N-CONQUER"!!!!!

I quote the last two paragraphs of a piece written by Thomas Sowell, 10.22.09...a man who has great integrity, and honest justice. "Without a range of opposing opinions being available to the public, the basic concept of a self-governing democracy is a mockery. If views that some people don't like can be silenced or discredited by character assassination, the whole country loses."...that verbiage says that those who are offended by "words" (which can point out deficiencies)...obviously, are so "thin-skinned". that its a shame they're in charge of anything...let alone an entire country! Something is very wrong with this picture!!!!!...This is the character of man who should be our President!

obviously the president isn't a "student" of citizens rights according to the US Constitution...as citizens, even FOX News has the "freedom of speech", whether one agrees or chooses to disagree! The good people of the "United States" voted for a president, someone who occupies the white house for (2) terms, 8-years!None of us want a king, and if we did....not sure you'd be on the menu!

(www.usdebtclock.org)$139,171,000,000,000.00 dollars of debt....divided by 153,000,000 million american citizens equals.......
$909,614.37 dollars that each american owes on the United States debt..................................................................
National Debt--11.964 Trillion Dollars....Bank Bailouts--11.419 Trillion Dollars....Social Security--13.947 Trillion Dollars....Prescription Drug Liability--18.454 Trillion Dollars....Medicare Liability--73.387 Trillion Dollars....Medical coverage plan Obama--10 Trillion Dollars.....................................................................................................................................
This is the breakdown of the United States Debt. Look at (usdebtclock.org)...The United States is bankrupt and headed for hyperinflation. Most of the United States Debt is hidden and off the books.

Is the best that we can do at CBS and through the Obama administration.....is argue about Fox News? Is Fox News going to fix this financial screw up, that both political parties have burdened our children with? Is Obama going to fix this? This situation is not mathematically fixable without hyperinflation and the collapse of the dollar.

But we argue about Fox News...because that is important? You have got to be kidding me. It's the economy stupid. It is imploding in front of everyones eyes. Can't you count....it is simple math.

The 153,000,000 million citizens are the ones that are working and actually paying taxes.

All news outlets have a political bend to them. Apparently, most of them are seen by the right to have a liberal slant, although it's kind of hard to imagine after witnessing the past 16 years of Clinton bashing and Bush worshiping... whatever.

Nonetheless, Fox Newz has openly stated that they represent the opposition and this is their Alamo. Hell, republicans (all 20% of them, especially their craven politicians) won't even wipe their butts without the approval of Glenn Beck and his merry band of millionaire pathological liars like the drug addled Rush Limbaugh or that blond skeleton with heavy eyeliner they roll out every now and again.

That's not news, it's farce. A comedy show for the simple minded. My cat loves my fish tank screensaver... who'd a thunk it?

The right wing republican propaganda machine is pounding on the democrats 24 hours a day, seven days a week and it's not considered a campaign contribution... why not? The other networks have their paranoid gasbags like Limbaugh (well, maybe not that bad), but do you hear one left wing... nay, even a 'neutral' viewpoint on Fox Newz? No. They just fired the last token liberal the other day.

It's all business it's not personnal nor is it real like they portray it as the owner of Fox wants to expand the white house wants health care they both will get what they want in the end because it's all part of the government media complex. Beck and O'Reily will eventually change their tunes or they will be gone only the ones that are actually on radio only will not be touched they are different alltogether.

The man who runs Fox "news", if you can call it that, is Roger Ailes. This man also was a major campaign manager for former Presidents Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush. Therefore Fox's credibility is gone, because it is blatantly biased for Republicans. Case closed.

The funniest thing I ever saw was Fox News election night coverage. "This just in! McCain wins Oklahoma!" I just about split a gut.

Republicans war on the media

Here's something more.

"I mean, talk about a direct IV into the vein of your support. It?s a very efficient way to communicate. They regurgitate exactly and put up on their blogs what you said to them. It is something that we?ve cultivated and have really tried to put quite a bit of focus on."

Dan Bartlett, counselor to President Bush, on how they controlled the media.

They are not a legitamate news outlet and shouldn't be treated as one.
