Hamas Claims Israel Killed Its Own Soldier Captured By Al Qassam Fighters
Al Qassam Martyrs Brigades, Hamas' military wing, claimed that Israeli forces bombarded a house where Hamas fighters had been holding an Israeli soldier hostage. The Internet statement released by al Qassam claims the soldier had been seized earlier the same afternoon in southern Gaza. "The planes of the Zionist enemy bombed the house and destroyed it completely, thus putting an end to the life of its soldier," the statement stated. "They preferred this horrific death for their soldier to him being imprisoned by the Mujahideen of al Qassam," added the statement.
The group warned Israeli soldiers that they were not safe in Gaza and pledged to try and kidnap more Israeli troops. "God has not allowed for this operation to be successful, but we promise our people that we shall not to spare any efforts in bringing some companions to 'Shalit', in order to free some of our prisoners." Gilad Shalit is an Israeli soldier who was captured in June 2006
