Katie Couric's Notebook: Palin's E-Mail Hacked

There's been a heated debate swirling on the blogs about Gov. Sarah Palin's Yahoo e-mail account, and whether she may have conducted official state business there. The question certainly raises eyebrows, but the FBI is now focused on another incident involving her personal e-mail.

On Tuesday, an anonymous person or persons hacked into Gov. Palin's account, changed the password, and proceeded to forward her personal information around the Internet. That included private photos of her kids that ended up on websites such as Gawker and Wikileaks.

Sarah Palin is a public figure, but she has the right to privacy and so does her family. The scary lesson here is how easy it is to invade that privacy online, and the damage that can be caused by just a few mouse clicks.

If she used her personal account for the wrong reasons, it's up to the authorities to investigate it – not hackers.

Katie we hardly knew ye! You need to watch some other channel''s news to get up to date BEFORE you go on the air each evening. Your "updates" on Palin are so out of date as to be last week''s news. The entire legislature in Alaska is available via email, even to the man in the street. Just go to Alaska''s home page and look around for the legislature; once you find them, just take your pick of who to write. I would suggest Hollis French, the political NON-entity who "spearheaded" the NONevent rediculously promoted as "troopergate". Didn''t you notice the Donald endorsing McCain & Palin last night? When will you feed us that bit of REAL news? Next week?

Do we really want to put someone as unsavvy as Ms Palin "a heatbeat away from the presidency?"

First it is laughable that she even has a Yahoo email account and second it is laughable that she set it up to be easily hacked.

Her handlers are not doing their job.

I just wonder if I had hacked into Biden''s email and posted his stuff if there wouldn''t be wild outcrys by all the media? I also wonder where o'' where are all the privacy zealots that say that Bush shouldn''t be wiretapping? We shouldn''t have video cameras on every street corner. Give me an "H" "I" "P" "O" "C" "R" "A" "C" "Y"

I don''t know about anyone else, but Senator McCain said that he was going to clean up Washington and Gov. Palin said the say thing. But how can she or McCain say that now that they are trying to cover up Palin''s non guilt or guilt. This isn''t good for the American people. How can you trust someone that says one thing and does another. Where is the Honor? You can''t have Honor without truth.

Katie, yes we know you hate Palin and everything she stands for: women rising to the top of their career while raising children and making a difference in their little section of the world . . . Oh wait, that used to be you. Now you''re just angry and bitter like all the other liberal feminists because wehh wehh wehh, we should have had a woman on our party''s ticket . . . wahhhh . . . we only support women who think like us. Sexism in journalism even from women. How lovely. Can''t wait to see you try to slam her to the carpet in the interview. Maybe Barbara & Whoopi and Charlie can help you. Shall I ask them to bring the torches?!
A VP CANDIDATE''S EMAIL ACCOUNT WAS HACKED INTO! THERE WERE NO SECRETS THERE, NO IMPROPER USE OF THE ACCOUNT!!! But you just put it out there as a little nibble for the liberal radicals to run with on their blogs. Give me a break!

Katie, the first nonpartisan position I have heard you take and indeed this is not a political issue. We all want privacy in our personal email and if some of these posters here would read they would know this was a personal account with kids photos etc. Funny how women have demanded equal treatment from before I was born, then when a conservative woman succeeds they hate it--she is unsavvy. People want privacy unless the violated person is conservative. Thank you for your comments Katie.

Ms Couric, most %u201Cthinking%u201D Americans can see through your feigned outrage. Your article is nothing more than a poor attempt at a cheap shot based on internet rumor and innuendo. It is clear that liberals, such as yourself, are scared to death of a %u201Creal%u201D woman such as Sarah Palin who is a self-made woman in every sense of the word. Because she is conservative, the ever-so-tolerant liberals will stop at nothing to destroy her. But more American%u2019s are on to you biased types in the media. I know personally of four Democrat women who are voting McCain precisely because of the way the Democrats, including their press agents in the media, have attempted to belittle and smear this good women, simply because she doesn%u2019t ascribe to the liberal agenda.

I am a 49 year old white male a life time resident of Idaho and am very disturb about the fact that race and bigotries is playing such a big role in this election. When I ask my fellow white whom there voting for and I hear the White guy ore I%u2019m not voting for that *** I almost come out of my skin and then to see menacing adds like McCain most resent I feel like I%u2019m flashing back 40 years. This need%u2019s to be address aggressively and Mr. McCain Is dealing the race card and fueling the fire of bigots across the Nation his feet need to be held to the fire he talks about Country first and if it seen that he has won over this issue there be a back lash that will ripple across Nation and tack us back 40 years.

If Ms. Couris had half a brain, she would have found out that it is a federal offense to post pictures on the net of minors without the written consent of a parent or guardian. Wherfe is her faked outrage of the that. Of course, if it was her, she would be so upset and screaming at everyone to do something about it, and how outrageous it is. What a fricken hypocrit she is.

I was a Hillary supporter, now McCain supporter.
I have been around the block and seen many elections.
This election is a disgrace in many avenues.
Women are being disgraced and African Americans are acting more racists than ever.
Obama is not being vetted, but protected.

The media needs to do their job, big time.
A Plea to the Media:
Vet Obama!

Below is a limited list of areas where the media has failed to investigate Obama.

This list does not include Obama%u2019s many policy reversals or outright fabrications, like the statement that the Kennedy family facilitated his father coming to the United States.

It does not include Obama%u2019s habit of voting present%u2019 as a member of the Illinois State Senate nor his strange maneuverings regarding a born alive bill.

Instead, the list below concerns Obama%u2019s associates and business dealings.

It is a sordid group, comprised of the America-hating, anti-Israel, and explicitly racial Left. There is big money involved, as with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and bizarre organizations to which money was funneled.

Obama%u2019s milieu is the intersection of Chicago politics and the fringe Left; there is much to be explored and explained about Obama. Below is a partial list where Obama remains unvetted:

Part 2
1. Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama%u2019s 20-year membership in an explicitly racist church, a church with rhetoric too hot for Oprah.

2. Rezko. Obama%u2019s ties to Tony Rezko and the 2005 purchase of the Obamas%u2019 home. Obama funnelling money to Rezko%u2019s sleazy businesses.
3. Ayers. Obama%u2019s extensive ties to unrepentant terroist Bill Ayers.

4. Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC). Obama and Ayers together dispensing tens of millions of dollars supposedly for educational organizations.

Although now just being investigated, it%u2019s known that money was funnelled to Ayers%u2019 friend, radical Mike Klonsky, a founding member of the Maoist Party of the United States.

5. Minister Louis Farrakhan. Obama is surrounded by people like Rev. Willie Barrow, a friend and admirer of the anti-white, anti-Semitic Farrakhan.

If the media doesn%u2019t do their job, we may end up with this guy as President.

I think she does deserve the right to privacy, but I think it is bad for political office holders to make use of private accounts to avoid accountability.

But an issue I see that is of more harm is Palin''s record in respect to victims of sexual assault. Wasilla city documents and media interviews have shown that during her years as mayor the city shifted from previously providing rape kits free of charge to suddenly charging rape victims for the rape kits. City police records also show that Wasilla has had a high rate of sexual assault (over 2 per 1,000 residents) and the *** Offender database also shows a very high percentage of *** offenders living in the town (over 8 per 1,000), while the rate in the state is 4.7 per 1,000 residents.

So I hope you will ask Sarah Palin why her police chief switched to this policy and why she as mayor signed off on it.

And then just last week her lawyers said that Alaska''s public safety commissioner was fired for the "rouge" action of seeking to create and fund a new program to tackle sexual assault. I hope you will ask her why a person from a town with comparatively high rates of sexual assault and a high number of sexual offenders, in a state that leads the nation in the rate of forcible rape would, as governor, fire the public safety commissioner for taking initiative on this issue? When a reasonable person would assume that fighting sexual assault would be a priority for her governorship, why is it not?

This is not a privacy issue.
It is purely a judgment issue.
She showed very poor judgment in using yahoo mail for government communications of any kind regardless of her motivation.
Our political loyalties should not outweigh our ability to assess candidates%u2019 judgment and performance else we run the very real risk of promoting poor leadership.
She either did not know any better or worse yet knew better and felt her need for concealment outweighed her need for security, either way it shows very poor judgment and the last thing we should even be considering is employment advancement opportunities for a person so utterly lacking in reasonability.

She wants us to believe she%u2019s soooo tough%u2026
Yet she%u2019s intimidated by the press, and won%u2019t take their questions.
