Palin's Parents Told To Listen To Radio

From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s parents were called early this morning at their home in Wasilla and told to “listen to the radio” by Palin’s husband, Todd.*

Palin’s father, Chuck Heath, says he and his wife were caribou hunting when they were told to come home and tune into their local radio station to hear “exciting news,” but said he did not know if his daughter was the choice for John McCain’s vice president.

“The river was swollen, so we almost didn’t get back,” Palin’s mother, Sally Heath, told CBS News.

The two said they said the call was “a wonderful surprise.”

“I am shocked!” said Mrs. Heath.

*Correction: This post originally identified Palin's husband as Tim. His name is Todd.

Oh!!!! How wonderful. I was really worried ...Again we were going to have to vote against some one, like we have had to do in the last few elections. I hadn''t heard of Sarah Palin before now .... But when I heard his announcement of his running mate, I was so impressed with her speech. Not because she is a woman ,but because of merit ,qualification. But that it is a woman is also wonderful. I feel she can do the job as well can''t wait to hear more from her and more about her and her abilities. At this time she has a lot of good attributes that we can see right away. This is so exciting. I wasn''t looking forward to voting , tho I was going to vote McCain ...but now I am . They will make a great team and she will balance out the age thing with John McCain. This is going to be a very exciting election year. I believe the Messiah has been taken down off his pedistool and is very shaken up by this pick. And Hillary too. Dems are not happy campers about this turn of events. Yea!!!! Good Choice

Undecided081...Here''s a hint, stop watching Fox News...Bush inherited a budget SURPLUS from Clinton - and immediately passed the largest tax cut EVER for the richest 2% of Americans (who hold half of the US assets). He then went to war (by choice in Iraq) without asking those rich b-stards to help pay for it (or physically fight it - ala Cheney''s five draft deferrments). Yes, Dems won majorities in Congress, but not enough to get past Rep fillibusters in the Senate or override Bush''s veto...REPUBLICANS are responsible for the recession (Grahm - still McCain''s top economic advisor deregulated oil trading and banks; his wife gutted ENRON)! Wake Up!

Wow,
Senator Obama''s great political fortunes return as once again during this election his opponent turns out to be a nincompoop. Senator McCain shows his political prowess is equivalent to that of Allan Keys -remember him, the non-Illinois token minority freak show the Republican Party sent to prevent Obama%u2019s election to the Senate. And now McCain picks a token female to woo disgruntled Clinton supporters, revealing just how stupid and superficial he and other Republicans think those supporters are -somewhere George Carlin is begging to be brought back to life to tell just a few more jokes. Yes, she%u2019s been a governor and mayor of the least-populated state -smaller than most US cities- and a tiny town, -I think they now have a stoplight though -and she%u2019s a moose hunter, a sports reporter and a beauty queen. A lifetime member of the NRA and chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission -Cheney approves. A BS in journalism-communication from Idaho -very prestigious; clearly no other education is required. Fully qualified, you betcha; to ruin Republican chances to keep the Presidency. She makes me yearn for Dan Quayle! Senator Joe Biden vs. Governor Sarah Palin, there%u2019s a wartime VP debate for the century. President-Elect Obama might as well start selecting his Cabinet%u2026Ding-dong, hello Mrs. Bush, I%u2019m Michelle Obama, would you mind if I came in to measure the drapes, thanks.

I have not decided where to go yet.I no expert on politics. I am not in favor of the war. However I dont want to fight them here. Also, Bush inherited a recession from a Democrat controled white house and congress. Republicans take control of the white house and the congress and we have a huge economic boom in this country. Democrats take control of the congress a while back and we are in a recession again. Please help me understand! I am leaning towards Obama, but why do democrats cause recessions?!?!

I and many other American citizens have been quietly watching Sarah Palin and working to bring her image to the American public. Admittedly I expected McCain to pick Mitt Romney (who I campainged for) but am overwhelmingly stunned to hear he picked Sarah Palin. Gov Palin will add a tremendous excitement to this campaign but more importantly she will refresh and restore the Conservative message that her life preaches. She is the epitome of the best of Conservatism and her political reformer reputation along with her ardent pro-life stance that she demonstrates first hand is a boon to what modern American women can strive for. She brings executive know how, moral value, personal charism that can spark a whole new wave in modern American political life. I have never felt more enthusiastic about campaigning than I do this morning. Thank you John McCain! And now I will open my checkbook before times runs out and public financing limits McCain/Palin contributions. $$$ now! my most enthusiastic donation ever! McCain/Palin 2008 !!

McCain''s choice was probably the most brilliant decision he''s made. I''m looking forward to seeing how this election pans out. I like that Sara doesn''t mind stepping on toes. I think we''ve needed that mentality for a long time. For those of you who backed Hillary, I think my vote would be swayed to the republican ticket. Obama obviously didn''t think a woman was good enough to be his partner. It amazes me how so many people think the only disparity in the world is race. Gender disparity has been prevalent for as long or longer than the color barriers. I''m not a Hillary fan, but she works hard and I think she was completely qualified to be Obama''s running mate. McCain had the guts to make that move and I think Sara''s a strong leader. She will definitely liven things up in the White House.

For the comments on Sara''s ethics, I think she''s right on target. How could anyone remotely question her ethics when she has had the strength and courage to raise a disabled child? As far as gay marriages are concerned, I think you are walking on thin ice to be questioning someone''s ethics if they are opposed to it. Someone could easily argue your ethics for thinking it''s OK.

Go McCain for shaking things up a bit!!!

I am a Republican that was not happy with McCain, until today. I feel that he has brought a common person to the election that understands the views of the working class person. Palin has stood for what she believes in at one of the most stressful and emotional times in her life. I feel that she could make the same decisions if she were VP. I will now proudly vote for McCain/Palin.

Brilliant move. She''s extraordinary and the best part is she was under everyone''s radar screen. Palin has brought excitement to this campaign and I am "over the moon."

I use the term loosely and in a more moderate form. Obama is a socialist democrat. He stands for undoing the injustices set by a free market, he believes the government should step up and redistribute the pieces of the "pie." His "plan" is a degree of socialism.

I think it is commendable that McCain had the guts to choose a strong woman as his VP. At least he is still proud to travel and support the American Flag. Obama shows his support by Ophrah by putting his little matching "O" on his plane right before he went to the middle east. He took the flag and everthing patriotic off his plane and replace it with his own personal "O". Sick! God forbid, if he should win, will the American flag be replaced with and "O" symbol. Instead of christianity we will be "O"ity! With a flavor of musilism. He used Hilary at the convention, but too scared of a strong intelligent woman to choose her as a VP. I am surprised he didn''t choose Ophrah.

so dmswolves, you would rather have someone in there that IS for unethical things?!?!? Sounds like Obama is the right pick for you being that he is open to everything, including being friends with known domestic terrorists, felons, turning America into and other questionable characters, he wants to turn America into an almost socialist nation, and he stands for nothing. I take that back, he "change" which again, really means nothing

I am not a McCain fan but I was still undesided until this morning. I will not vote for him now. Him picking a unknown is not very smart idea. He turned 72 years old today if something happens to him then this will be our next PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This is one very stupid move.
