No Signs Of Slowing Down

648627The earmarking process determining who and what gets funding outside the routine Congressional budget process is in full swing. Taxpayers for Common Sense (TCS) is one watchdog group that's culling through the legislation and adding things up. The group finds that members of the House have inserted more than $442-million worth of earmarks in the House Commerce-Justice-State spending bill. Among the big earmarkers is Alan Mollohan (D-WV) who, according to TCS, got twice the value of earmarks in this bill as last year ($9.7-million) even while under federal investigation for his earmarking practices. According to The Associated Press: "The Justice Department ... is investigating whether he has benefited from directing federal funds to nonprofit groups he helped start."
