Obama Stops By U.S. Capitol ... Just To Say "Hello"

Jill Jackson is a Capitol Hill field producer for CBS News.
Sen. Barack Obama stepped into a swarm of superdelegates this morning when he visited the House of Representatives in the middle of a vote. Obama stayed on the floor for almost half an hour visiting with both Democrats and Republicans who looked completely star struck.

Even Speaker Nancy Pelosi left her weekly press briefing and made a beeline for the House floor to say hello. And the Capitol Hill press corps surrounded the House Chamber to catch him on his way out and fire questions about such an unusual move for a presidential candidate, even if he is a senator.

"I wasn't campaigning, I was just saying hello to everybody," Obama said.

He also said he wanted to make clear that he was available to answer any questions the undecideds might have and reassure members of the Democratic Party as well.

"Obviously people have been anxious about some of the sense of division in the party," Obama said. "I just wanted to ensure them that whatever happens, we will be coming together."

Obama also admitted that Clinton has the upper hand in West Virginia and Kentucky and will "likely win" those states. When asked if Obama would consider Sen. Hillary Clinton as his running mate, Obama said it's still too early to make that call because he "doesn't know who the nominee is going to be."

After passing through the Capitol Rotunda to the Senate side and exhanging words with some tourists from Illinois, Obama and his secret service were finally able to ditch the scrum. He hopped in an elevator to continue his day of wooing superdelegates in Washington before he gets back to the campaign trail.

Off topic BUT CBS NEWS continues to cover up their own complicity in Pentagon "military analyst program". Usually CBS will pick up on stories that are generated by the Politico ...except, of course, stories that reflect badly on them. Like a new one that highlights how the mainstream press are refusing to cover this story, despite the fact that members of Congress are now getting involved in this matter (which is usually the kind of thing that would automatically generate a story).

CBS Military Analysts that were bought and paid for by the Pentagon:

Joseph W. Ralston
Jeffrey D. McCausland

But don''t expect CBS to let you know.

I believe it is time for us all to come together...

Here''s a solution to the Michigan/Florida delegate dilemma. Give Hillary the percentage of delegates she actually earned in each state (which is the majority and 50% respectfully), then allocate the remaining delegates to the remaining democratic candidate, Obama. Seat all the delegates. Do not count the popular votes, as a remaining sanction to the state officials. Do not change the 2025 delegate goal line for the nomination. No voters are disenfranchised and no candidate is cheated. It''s a win-win as a solution...Spread the word.

I like it over here at CBS. I%u2019ve been posting at ABC for a while. However, I still hope Dan Rather wins his lawsuit because he was absolutely accurate with his story. Rather started his career here in Galveston.

Rowdytexan2: Obama is not Islamic. Nor, is he a "right wing extremist." Republicans are "right wing" and some are "extremist" (like George Bush!).

Obama stated that he "did not expect to win in West Virginia or Kentucky." I''m West Virginian and I''m supporting Obama. However I now live and vote on Galveston Island, Texas. He already won this county.

We Hillary democrats see this destruction of the party we so loved. Seems the party leaders and the super delegates do not recognize Hillary is the superior candidate to be John. Seems to me as soon as this nomination is given to him by the party leaders and the super delegates, the exodus from the party for John will be something to behold.

McCain is better than Bush, Obama is WORSE than Bush. It''s that simple if we can''t have a REAL democrat in the White House, instead of the Nation of Islam loving Obama.

I''m tired of right wing extremism and see nothing worth having in left wing extremism except more hate and unrest!

Just say NO to Obama and the Nation of Islam.

I''m for Obama, so I guess that makes me a lazy white American.

RowdyTexas2,

Don''t get discouraged, she can still pull this thing out if you just pick up that credit card and dial the 800 number on your screen..operators might be waiting!

You feel like a fool because you are one! Little five year old pea brain posing under someone elses nic.

My donations will continue to flow to the Clinton campaign until there isn''t one because she is the BEST candidate we''ve got!

mudrose,

McCain has associations to Bush & Cheney & Rumsfeld...you don''''t get any morequestionable than that.

I don''''t agree that he has no record but With a record like the Republicans I''''d just as soon start from scratch.

The only reason Hillary has not pulled out yet is obvious.

She has LOANED her campaign nearly $12 million dollars; at the moment there is not enough money in her campaign to repay her, if she quits then the donations stop, which means she has a problem recovering her millions.

However if she is clever she can continue and keep making requests for donations from foolish Clinton supporters.
Once enough gullible people have made donations and there is enough money to pay her back THEN suddenly she will announce that she is quitting for the good of the Party !

Does that make sense to you Clinton supporters?

Now go to her website immediately and pay back her loans!

Clinton talks about her support among "hard working white Americans."

McCain the multi-millionaire (and Mrs Millions) parade as Mr and Mrs Sixpack -- and grovel before the Reverand Hagee, who pronounces the Catholic church the "great ***" and explains Hurricane Katrina as "God''s judgement on New Orleans."

Meantime Obama is cool, inclusive, thoughtful and gracious.

Well, I guess he gets my vote.
