ISP: The Devil & Mike Huckabee

On today's show: Huckabee rocks in Iowa; escalators are dangerous; and the annual Barney cam.

Do Mormon's really believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers?

That's a question raised by GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee in the upcoming New York Times Magazine. Needless to say, the comment is reigniting a discussion about Mitt Romney's faith, just days after his staffers believed they'd put the issue to bed.

But, well, do they really believe that about Jesus?

In a response to Huckabee posted online, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints explains that, "all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the Savior of mankind."

Is that a yes or a no?

The Website also has links to the basic teachings of LDS and The Book of Mormon, which is a cornerstone of the faith.

The book asserts that Jesus lived here in North America. Some Bloggers have joked that he lived in Albany, and that isn't too far off. It was somewhere near Rochester. It becomes clear very quickly as you read the book that this story, for all its similarities, is very different from the traditional Christian understanding of Christ's story.

It's an interest read, though, if you really want to learn more about LDS.

Meanwhile, Huckabee is taking heat for opening up the religion wound all over again. Is it an intentional jab as he heads into the holidays leading the polls in Iowa with a bullet?

As for all of this talk of the devil, I dug up a rare moment on YouTube. Apparently Mike Huckabee is quite the rocker.

An underdog from Arkansas. Charismatic and popular, and a rock musician to boot?

Is it 1992 all over again?

We need someone whose core values mirror knowing right from wrong, good from evil. Someone who%u2019s volition is for service for our country and not for self, someone who knows through practice the meaning of laying down their life, a leader who is not afraid of confrontation when he is alone fighting for the right, backbone, someone who acknowledges His weaknesses in order for growth to take place, someone who has as their object of their truth a reality to hang onto in His and our time of need. The next president will have to tackle an open can of worms. He will have to deal with our economy. Deal with terrorism, most of all dealing with countries from around the world in order to build lasting legitimate relationships where all the issue''s can be dealt with from the various countries. We will never have perfect peace but we can have coexistence. So the next president needs to know compromisement for truth. I know this is not a real word but it fits for the moment. May the Lord lead you for your decision this coming election.

The doctrine that Lucifer and our Lord, Jesus Christ, are brothers does this mean Mitt Romney''''s faith allows Lucifer to make suggestions while eh in the white house? Or in effect there is no right or wrong just good with this doctrine! This is the core value of Mitt Romney''s faith. He will if elected lead our country with it. Then will the other countries see us as the great devil!

Direct quote from the LDS website: Jess L. Christensen, Institute of Religion director at Utah State University, Logan, Utah. "On first hearing, the doctrine that Lucifer and our Lord, Jesus Christ, are brothers may seem surprising to some%u2014especially to those unacquainted with latter-day revelations. But both the scriptures and the prophets affirm that Jesus Christ and Lucifer are indeed offspring of our Heavenly Father and, therefore, spirit brothers." Huckabee was right. It was a legitimate question. Why are the Mormons squawking about it?

Just for the record, us Mormons don''t believe that Jesus lived in America. We believe that after he had risen he visited his followers around the world. Thus, we believe that he VISITED the Americas, not LIVED in the Americas. Also, there is no specific reference to the New York area at all. You must be confusing things about Joseph Smith...
