More On Ron Paul

(AP)
Discussing Ron Paul's "brothel endorsement" and the media coverage that followed.

I was not surprised to see the amount of traffic and response our episode on the Bunny Ranch endorsement elicited. Ron Paul is an Internet sensation, and frequently at the top of the search lists on Technorati and Yahoo.

I think it's worth it to keep the dialogue open on this story, as some of you made some great points.

One reader, wgaryjohnson, points out Tucker Carlson's connection to Dennis Hof. Hof was reportedly at the Ron Paul event as Carlson's guest. This is not the first time Carlson has attempted to "sex up" the 2008 race. On this YouTube clip from his show, he interviews a "stripper for Ron Paul," and even says, "when you combine strippers and the 2008 race, that's why they evented cable television."

As a self proclaimed supporter of Ron Paul's candidacy, is Carlson bringing some unwanted attention, or finding a way to get his man more airplay? That's worth discussing.

I think hutch2471 made an interesting point when he wrote that MSM is trying to discredit Ron Paul. Well, how so? The endorsement was not Paul's doing, and our show included a soundbite from a campaign spokesman who said clearly that Paul does not condone Dennis Hof's lifestyle. We then went on to mention that a porn star and a former Madam have endorsed Hillary Clinton. These are what Radar Magazine once dubbed "undorsements." As a presidential contender, you can't control who likes you or who speaks out in your favor. You can only distance yourself from the less than savory.

Finally, brettrix asks, "What's wrong with prostitutes?" We are not here to judge. Suffice it to say that politics makes for very strange bedfellows. Did anyone expect that Pat Robertson would share a stage with Rudy Giuliani, let alone endorse him as a presidential candidate?

To be continued.

It''s interesting to me that a house of prostitution supporting Ron Paul is of such titillating interest. Are these people American citizens? Do they have the right to vote? If Ron Paul hadn''t been there, would they have voted for someone else, and would everyone be shocked if Hof endorsed Hillary?

When you consider that the other candidates take contributions from the pharmaceutical companies, who drug millions of children with dangerous drugs, which they often die from; from the oil companies who are polluting the environment with their 19th century technology & connections to the Middle East; from the military-industrial complex, building weapons of mass destruction and responsible for the deaths of thousands of people throughout the world, you begin to think it might be a bit lopsided to denigrate a candidate that gets almost all of his contributions from private citizens, some who happen to have ways-of-life many might consider outside the norm. No one, in the same breath, mentions these others, because they are "business as usual & perfectly legitimate". Go figure.

I love how the media will do everything to paint the picture that Ron Paul has no "mainstream" support. I guess only whack jobs and prostitutes support small government, the constitution, and a sound, sustainable foriegn policy.

To the Author Tony Maciulis, Ron Paul can''t control who endorses him so why does the MSM focus on it. Is it somehow more newsworthy then say explaining a candidate policies? It''s irrelevant. Just like the anagram of your name: "Caution Slimy".

Jesus was seen as a kook. He had some loyal followers while he walked this earth but he gained the majority long after his death because people were vigilant about spreading that message. Same may hold true for Ron Paul just has he has picked up the role from Jefferson and Thomas Paine. We should never give up even if his candidacy fails. Freedom is too precious to be passive. And freemarket1 is correct about Magdalene. She may have even been the Apostle John (the one Jesus loved not referred to by name in the original Gospels), there is much study to be done on the history of biblical accuracies. There were many political factors involved the last 2000 years that led to the present interpretations. Either way the base message should be understood, even if one is not a religious person. Be good to everyone and don''t be a hypocrite is a pretty good message.

Another important point: The bunny ranch guy supports Ron Paul because Ron Paul stands for the constitution and American freedom; whereas the porn star (Jenna Jameson) likes the Clintons because the *** scandal put the words "b_o_ j_b" in the mainstream American lexer and was good for the *** industry.

Hey, I''m one Paul supporter who doesn''t hate that doesn''t believe the "Mainstream Media" as the enemy. I don''t see the anti-Paul conspiracy that many Paul supporters see.

your getting your bible mixed up.mary magdelene was never a prostitute.unfortunately she often gets mixed up with the prostitute who Jesus helps in the street(let he is without sin cast the first stone).its a nisreading of the bible which even the Catholic church used to believe up until the 60s.
either way ron paul is the man, manages to be a strong libertarian whilst remaining a devout Christian.even Augustine said you shouldnt force religion on a population if you are in charge

I am brettrix and my full quote was geared to the religious right and those huckabee supporters -

Mary Magdeline was a prostitute and she supported Jesus - so what''s the big deal? Should we consider Jesus a kook or crazy or think bad of him becase all types were attracted to him? or should we maybe hold Ron Paul in respect since his message unifies many Americans who take the time to consider him?

Interesting that a three letter word that rhymes with rex is censored here. When did it become a bad word? It certainly isn''t a curse word by any rational person''s standard. What if I used it as an alternate to "gender" instead of an alternate to inercourse? Let me guess, FCC got ya scared? Stand up for yourselves, CBS.

If selling is legal, and *** is legal, why is everyone so worried about selling ***? Of course, in Nevada, it is legal, so what''s the big deal? Anyone see the hypocrisy?

People can read about or watch people have *** (pornography) but they cannot buy *** from a willing seller of it. What if she sells a book to the customer and gives the *** away for free? That would actually be legal. This is just ridiculous. It''s all about the government finding laws that most people agree with so that when they come up with other laws that are shady at best they can easily get them passed because we are used to lots of laws.

You can''t legislate morality. That is why there is prostitution, drug and alcohol use, and gambling in every city. Just in Nevada, they legalize it and it''s much safer. Wake up, people.

Thanks for the coverage, but try to make an effort to cover the other major highlights of Ron Paul''s success. Things like his latest wins in the Straw Polls, which he is absolutely dominating. See http://www.ronpaul2008.com/straw-poll-results/
Be sure to scroll to the bottom for the unbelievable head-to-head preponderant success of Ron Paul.
Also there are endorsements like Barry Goldwarter Jr., former Constitution and Libertarian Party Presedential and VP nominated candidates (3rd and 4th largest political parties in America), conservative Republican organizations like the Jefferson Republican Party, United Republicans of California, etc. etc.
See more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Paul_presidential_campaign,_2008#Endorsements

In other words, lets see the items that conservatives will see as very positive and not just endorsements by people who Ron Paul is in no way connected with like strip club owners or strippers themselves.

I see a common thread developing in so far as Ron Paul''s brothel endorsement is concerned. It has become clear to me that those of us within society who feel that we have been screwed are now coming out and endorsing Ron Paul for President of the United States. I thank these courageous prostitutes for breaking with their fellow prostitutes (representatives) in Washington D.C., who so willingly sell themselves to corporations, special interests, foreign governments, and lobbyists of all stripes. Hopefully, many of our government "representatives" will stop prostituting themselves and get behind Ron Paul as well.

Go Ron Paul 2008!

I would like to see more reports on issues Ron Paul supports and less on political games that undermine the average readers intelligence. Our civil liberties are at stake and all we get is "Oh, look a stripper!" Doesn''t anyone care at all about what we have allready lost? Has America died to greed and power? Next time you sing the "Star Spangled Banner" or pledge your alliegence with your hand over your heart, are you going to think about what we have lost in the Bill of Rights or are you going to think about some stripper or bunny ranch.

In the end the only people we have to blame are ourselves (including reporters) for caring more about monday night football scores and less about our freedom. The passiveness of the american people that are not enraged about what has been violated sickens me to the core. When Ron Paul speaks of restoring our freedom others laugh at him. They laugh at us for wanting the Bill of Rights restored? They laugh because the people say the government overspends? This is funny to them. Well, im not laughing. And niether are the american people.

The reason you''re seeing so many posts/emails from people crying out for more coverage of Ron Paul is that for the first time in many of our lives, we''ve encountered a politician we can *truly* believe in. He is not a shill of special interests, corporations, or the media. He doesn''t shift his view to please a crowd. Even if you cast aside his unrelenting defense of the Constitution, his vow to get our troops back home *defending* us instead of provoking foreign powers, and his dedication to personal freedoms, he is worthy of the presidency on the merit of his character alone. Yet, even with the largest grassroots support in recent history, he is little more than a blip on the radar. Streisand endorses HC and it''s top page news? The media is doing the American people a disservice.

Thank you for the followup, Tony.
I personally avoid using the acronym MSM, although I know a lot of those who comment do. I would much rather see a cooperative interaction between the press and supporters of all presidential candidates. Our nation is facing some very serious issues that need to be addressed by whoever is elected president, and so we obviously need to establish and maintain an environment that encourages constructive dialogue to whatever degree is possible. I appreciate the fact that you are seeking to respond in a civil way to those who might have taken offense to the story you mentioned, but please know that given the gravity of this election, it is vitally important for us to keep the debate as centered on the campaign issues as possible. That will allow us to have choices in next year''s general election that have gotten that far based on their own merits.
