Today brings news of another CNNer finding his way to CBS News. Lou Dobbs has been named "special contributor" to "The Early Show." He'll contribute weekly commentaries to the program starting April 10. Press release after the jump.

LOU DOBBS IS NAMED A SPECIAL CONTRIBUTOR TO CBS NEWS’ “THE EARLY SHOW”

Lou Dobbs, an award-winning television broadcaster, has been named a special contributor to THE EARLY SHOW, it was announced by Steve Friedman, Vice President, Morning Broadcasts, CBS News. Dobbs will contribute weekly commentaries to the broadcast, the first of which will appear on April 10.

“What makes Lou stand out is that he’s not afraid to tackle the hot topics,” says Friedman. “THE EARLY SHOW will surely benefit from having the unique and passionate perspective that Lou will now bring to morning television.”

Dobbs is the anchor and managing editor of CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight.” He also anchors a nationally syndicated financial news radio report, “The Lou Dobbs Financial Report.” Dobbs first joined CNN when it launched in 1980, serving as anchor of “Moneyline.”

He has received nearly every major award for broadcast journalism, including the George Foster Peabody Award for his coverage of the 1987 stock market crash. In 1990, he was given the Luminary Award by the Business Journalism Review for his “visionary work, which changed the landscape of business journalism in the 1980s.” In 1999, Dobbs received the Horatio Alger Association Award for Distinguished Americans. In 2005, Dobbs was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Emmy for business and financial reporting. He is the author of the best-selling books War on the Middle Class (Penguin, 2006) and Exporting America (Warner Books, 2004).

Dobbs serves on the boards of the Society of Professional Journalists Foundation, the Horatio Alger Association, the National Space Foundation and is a member of the Planetary Society, the Overseas Press Club, the American Economic Association and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Dobbs was born in Childress, Texas. He was graduated from Harvard University in 1967 with a degree in economics.

Michael Bass is the senior executive producer of THE EARLY SHOW.

Well me being Hispanic I think is somewhat irrelevant to the point. Everybody has equal right to judge Dobbs and what he says, and me being Hispanic and you being African-American in no way changes how much our opinions matter. My race, like yours, doesn't make me an expert on racism or Lou Dobbs.

And when Dobbs repeated attacks Mexian immigrants for bringing "diseases" into the US, for increasing crime, and draining the funds of social services it appears to me that he is stereotyping illegal Mexican immigrants based on race. Not every point he makes about immigration is racist, and maybe not even most of them, but I find it difficult to believe that people can watch him and not see the way some of his grandstanding results from mixing racism with a desire for ratings.

jjnels: I identified myself as African-American for the same reason I'd identify myself as a redhead if sensitivity to sunbathing was the focus of my post - because it communicates that I've had personal experience with the topic. Whether or not that gives more (or less) credibility to my comments is up to the reader.

Also, I said nothing about your intellectual capacity in my earlier post. What I said was "those who automatically call anyone opposed to illegal immigration a racist... [are]intellectually challenged or intellectually dishonest." Only you would know if that shoe fits you.

Racism is an ugly sentiment that is all about hatred and prejudice. It shouldn't be ascribed to someone without substantial justification. Vague references to 'undertones' and 'rhetoric' don't qualify. Even if they did, as I said in my earlier post - I've never heard any such overtones or rhetoric from Lou Dobbs - and I believe I'd recognize them if I heard them.

Why must you qualify your statement by saying you are African-American? Is that supposed to give what you say more credibility than anybody else? Is what I say less valid because I haven't said what race I am? And thank you for labeling me as intellectually challenged.

Dobbs does use racist rhetoric and undertones in his attack on illegal immigration. He cloaks it behind rhetoric about protecting American jobs and American culture, but just because people take it at face value and don't see the underlying meaning behind what he says doesn't mean that he isn't a racist.

"Nice, bring a racist over from CNN to polute your airwaves as well. It's a good thing nobody watches the Early Show because nobody needs to hear his racist rants. Posted by jjnels"

I'm an African-American lifelong Democrat who's been watching Lou Dobbs on CNN every night for about a year - and I have NEVER heard him say or imply anything an honest person could label as racist. There are those who automatically call anyone opposed to illegal immigration a racist - but that's an argument that can only be embraced by someone who is intellectually-challenged or intellectually dishonest.

Lou Dobbs speaks out on important issues too many television personalities won't touch or ignore - and he does so without viewing every single issue through the ideological prism of one political party. CBS made a great choice!

Lou is the best, his coverage of the immigration issue is top notch. You can tell that by the apologists whose heads regularly explode on his show. And it is good to see the racists from LaRaza and LULAC and MalDef exposed on a regular basis.

Pointing out who is tied to the illegal alien lobby is something most Media wont touch. When he regularly outs the Catholic church for their sanctuary and Bank of America for their furtherances of criminal activities Im surprised that a RICO action has not been instituted against them. The 1996 Immigration actw specifically allows private citizens to initiate RICO cases for such activities.

At the least the IRS should start pulling some Tax Exempt status of the religious groups. They have already sent out over 35,000 warning letters to various religious groups warning about their political activities and influence peddling.

We would like to see some action taken on these lines. Pull a few plugs on these religious groups and see if the still float. And if they do, cut them loose and let them float down with the rest of the flotsam.

Lou Dobbs is one of the most interesting thinkers in America today. I can't say that I agree with him on his hard line on the immigration issue. Whether one agrees or disagrees with Lou Dobbs, his new turn as populist-patriot is very much ahead of the curve and thoroughly ensconsed within the American historical tradition. The Lou Dobbs Factor is a fact of life; no doubt it will be influencing Presidential campaigns on either side of the aisle. It is so much so that it has been marvelled at by such old media hands as the perennially nut-brown tanned Ken Auletta and the supremely sober Kurt Andersen.

I am very glad to hear this. I think he will add a very unique aspect to the program and with this addition - I will clearly continue to watch.

With the many changes here and there that occur on the show - it sometimes seems to lose the intrigue that makes me want to watch.

I am a CNN fanatic and believe this will bring a more attractive dimension to keep me "staying tuned"...
