Katie: Puppy Love
Katie Couric has a new member of the family. We asked her to fill us in. -- Ed.
It’s official: I should be committed.
Last Sunday, we got a puppy. This brings the dog population at our house to three. We already have a Cairn terrier and a Yorkie. And now we’ve got a little Havanese . My daughter guilted me into it by describing in graphic terms what they do to puppies who are not adopted. It made be me feel so warm and fuzzy that I caved. Now I have a new source for piddle stains all over my apartment. Ah, the joys of giving!
There is a bit of a problem, though: we cannot agree on a name. And we need your help. I’m not saying we’re going to take your help. But we need it.
My first impulse was “Goldie.” As in “Hawn.” Ellie and Carrie came up with Cecilia. (I’m not sure where that came from.) There was a discussion this morning about names from Jane Austen, maybe something from“Sense and Sensibility” or “Emma.” But Eleanor is already Ellie’s name, Mariann just doesn’t fit, (Ginger is a possibility!) and Elizabeth was too formal. But Lizzie is still in the running.
Here are other ideas: my friend Jill suggested Triscuit, but it just makes me hungry. I like Emma. They think Georgy might be a good name, but all I can think of is Lynn Redgrave. I also like Charlotte, but the girls already have a cousin named Charlotte. It could get confusing.
Please tell me what you think. Got a better idea? She’s really really cute – as you can tell from the pictures! By the way, objects in the picture are larger than they appear in real life. She weighs about three pounds right now, and will max out at only 10.
P.S. Don't tell my parents. If they knew, they'd kill me.

But Yeah, I think you should go with Hallie if that feels right to you. If your daughters question the name, tell them a fifteen year old recommended it(I am 15) Good luck potty training! hee hee

Me and my 3 dogs.
Lizzie Lou!!! So much fun to call her...:"come here Lizzie Lou!"
Fairfax - a little different, I grant you. But, that could be a good thing. You could always call the little cutie "Jane Fairfax" instead.
Miss Bates - Emma never gave her any respect. Jane Austen would be thrilled that you are.
Mrs. Darcy - this is me doing anything possible to get Darcy's name in the post *loves Darcy*
Bingley - not a very masculine surname to begin with. I think it's a pretty cute name for a little dog.
Lady Catherine - probably not an option since Katie is the shortened version of Catherine...
Asta - not Austen but the name of Nick and Nora Charles' dog in The Thin Man movies of the 30's.
Good luck with naming her. She's a cutie.
Anyway, cute dog. Ours is named Lucie. We also have four cats: Jake, Cosmo, Shadow and Tori.
Then we have two rabbits: Brownie and Oreo; a snake: Sneaky, and two unnamed lizards, not to mention all the fish. I never thought I would live in a home with so many animals. We had a dog who was named Sam, as in Samantha.
Goldie, Ginger and Georgy seem like good candidates, but...
What about Pumpkin? (There are white pumpkins, you know.) Corky? Marble? Savannah? Just some suggestions.
We could try a few Spanish choices such as Oro,Amor or Hermoso. How about something using letters from family names for some unusual (unique?) names.
My choice would be Jecka which is usually short for Jessica. However you could shorten it to Jeck when the pup has an accident. More unusual would be Celka which can mean accurate.
However if you want to remain conventional then Goldie is a great choice. I'm sure Ms Hawn would be flattered.
Have fun with the pup!
That's how she looks to me...Precious!
The puppy is adorable! Because you got her during the Christmas season-how about Noel? Happy Holidays! Sharon
Very cute puppy....; I grew up with a golden retriever named Goldie.....she was wonderful...I also like the name Bella....
