Giving Paws

We get a lot of emails. I counted over 3,000 as of Friday, most dealing with Katie's hair, makeup, wardrobe or sign-off.

But this one really caught my eye.

Katie, The dogs in my neighborhood are very upset as their owners now wait until CBS News is over at 7:00 PM for their evening walk! Their eyes are turning yellow! Dogs (and owners) who used to do the evening "duty" an hour earlier, are now clogging these suburban streets...until after sign-off. It now takes an exra 20 minutes or so to meet, greet and sniff everyone ...
It's all part of our effort to get a leg up on the competition.

shirley0800 - what is more important to you..."Looking" at someone and passing judgement, or "Listening" to someone and forming a judgement? Have you ever sent an email to NBC or ABC and ripped on the attire of the anchorman? Just curious.....

Katie,

I dont like it that people are ragging on you the way they are. I have so much respect for you for how you talk to the people. Keep up the great work and reporting.

Dear Katie:

What an inspiration and virtual motivator you've been over the years. I congratulate and applaud your success and achievement!

I've anxiously tuned into the evening news to get a glimpse of you in your new position but am not pleased with the choice of wardrobe or the hair styles CBS is making for you. They are making you look so much older than you need to look - long skirts, head bands . . . . . I understand CBS has an image they want you to uphold but what happened to stylish Katie? I truly hope they will make some adjustments that reflect a bit more of you and the true sense of NY Style you always displayed.

I'll keep watching with hopes to see even a slight improvement.

Otherwise - you are a breath of fresh air to the evening news profile!

Best of luck

Good grief, people! It's not as if she's discussing the news while dressed like Ethel Mertz. If it matters, I believe the station you're looking for is E! .

Ummm, ever hear of the VCR? Or TiVo? Being (ahem) anchored to a set time for the evening news is sooo 20th century.

Congrats on your new role as anchor woman. Here's a suggestion on your sign off. "I'm Katie Couric. See you tomorrow night, here on the CBS Evening News. (up tone)
The "thank you so much" is getting "oh so much". Nice, but not so often. Otherwise, I love your sincerity & your laugh. God Bless KP from Alabama (SWAG-Southern Women Aging Gracefully)

I was also a fan until you had Rush Limbaugh on for a long political speech. There was no interview, he just spewed his usual hate. That was not news. I can't believe you would stoop so low as to pander to the hatemongering far right. You lost me as a viewer.

Katie, I have been watching you the past 15 years in the morning and you are now all I will watch in the evening. You are doing a great job! I like what you are saying at the close of your newscast.....there is nothing to change. You have given women and girls something to strive for, along with the other wonderful female newscasters. I have to say, in my humble opinion, that there something with your eye make-up that is totally different, and makes you look more angry(sinister) than serious. What you had on in the mornings was perfect and still would be for the evenings. Nothing else should change. You will now eat dinner with my family, rather than breakfast!

Katie,

I never thought I would get over your leaving the Today show; however, now that you are back - and actually at a better time for me, you have never been better.

I'm a little frustrated by some of the previous comments concerning your attire, your makeup and your hair. We are here for you - what's on the inside and not the outside. We all already know what a wonderful and sincere and honest person you are; therefore, the fussy stuff is not an issue.

You are doing a super job and you have turned an NBC die hard for the evening news to a CBS faithful viewer.

Keep up the good work.

Katie, in reference to your sign off each night. I feel that what you have been saying reflects on your character and true feelings for the Americam public. I would "stick" with the sign off "I'm Katie Couric: I hope to see you tomorrow.

I agree- who ever heard other people commenting on what tie or suit Dan Rather was wearing? Seems silly and ridiculous to me. Don't let them make you into 'Entertainment Tonight' or 'Oprah'. I love Oprah but you know what I mean. News is news and entertainment is entertainment. They both are important and need a voice.
You are a news anchor doing your job. To the bloggers who are commenting on you clothes, hair, etc--get a grip people! :-)
I'm a big fan, Katie- then and now. Keep up the good work! Be resilient and stay flexible and continue to do what works. After all, that is what got you there. :-)
One more comment- I enjoy the website and the 'behind the scenes'. It's cool to see that part of the news and opens a small window in what goes on to make a news broadcast. PLus it's convenient to get those updates during the day/lunch while I'm at work. I do TiVo your broadcast and I've NEVER done that before for any newscast, other than our local news occasionally. I don't watch our local CBS station because I don't care for their 'FOX news' type approach. I watch you and Letterman on CBS. :-) I enjoy both. Thanks for your hard work.

Dear Mrs Katie
I watch you ever night, you are a very interesting woman to watch, you make all woman lift our heads when we walk down the road. I have only one question, why do you sit on the desk at the end of your news cast? It just doesnt look right, from my point of view.

Katie, I have two suggestions for your "sign-off"...

"I'm Katie Couric...Good night, and good news to you, America."

"I'm Katie Couric...Until tomorrow, America...Good night."

P. S. to Katie: For those who have derogatory comments of you...That's just jealousy rearing its ugly head. When someone creates a buzz such as you have, that's just a sign that you have come into your own. Enjoy it, and congratulations on your new position!
