To hein21 or Jennifer, (the "fellow Catholic" )and several other commenters, lay off the cut and paste already! 210 comments listed and probably 100 of them are the same *** thing. Who's running this thing, anyway??
"That's our world today, enjoy yours tonight."
Some new comments would make my day. thanks.

katie you may have me hooked and now i may turn away from brian after so many years. keep the stories less and the depth deeper and its a good thing. DO NOT SELL AD TIME TO PRESCRIPTION DRUG MAKERS not because i'm a nut jumping on a sofa but because me and my pals are healthy americans and don't want to feel like we have to be watching you from an old folks home.

i like the free speech and want to be invited one day. if you stick to the middle of politics i will stay. if you veer to rather's old world, "see ya!".

soft stories like the end notes are good and i watch the sunday morning show for just those types of things. hopefully you can keep them as interesting as week 1.

see you at 6.30.

well after 5 years of religous watching of brian over on the other net, i think i'm hooked. that is as long as you have less commersh time as i see you do and less prescription drug ads as i URGE your ad sellers to refuse. (i'm not a tom cruise follower or anti-this-or-that but i am healthy (like many of your viewers) and not at all interested in geriatrics at the moment and think brian's team sells ONLY those ads)... show me ads on apple and cool cars and i'll be your friend. your longer pieces on big news is great and the heart string jerker at the end is a good endnote. i religiously watch the sunday morning show for those types of soft hits. I also like the free speech idea and hope i can someday chime in. if you REALLY ARE interested in hitting the "middle" of politics then STICK TO IT. don't do it just to catch us and then slowly slide back to the rather years...

I enjoyed watching CBS news for many years then why the program suddenly stops "CC" the news. Please bring back closed captions! I can't hear you at all and need closed captions to "hear" you. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that Katie reads the comments here. I am a BIG fan of Katie, and I became addicted to morning news 10 years ago because of Katie. I miss her terribly on the Today show. I jumped over to see her on the CBS nightly news last night, (tuesday). All in all it was great to see her back, however I thought the eye makeup was to heavy, and I miss the great personality!!! Tonight (wednesday) the makeup was better. I know in time Katie's personality will shine through. You go girl!!! I enjoy hearing what you have to report to the viewers, hope to see you many more years to come!! You have a super personality, it's a shame we can't get more of it on the nightly news!

Katie,
For a sign off, how about," Good night, and best wishes for a good day."

Your show was well done, but you lost me at the Rush Limbaugh part. I thought you were going for civility? If I want to watch nasty people promoting Bush talking points I will watch Fox.

I watched your show last night and was left with mixed reviews. I thought the interview segment was the best part of the show. I have been a long time viewer of the evening news programs and look forward to hearing about the news....please stay with the news, without making this into an entertainment program. Apparently many cared about your wardrobe...I think you looked fine. Be fashionable! With regard to your request for sign-off, that seemed a bit corny. I hope you will come up with something of your own, afterall you are the host and I would like to hear something that reflects your view or personality.

And one last thing...Rush Limbaugh...your joking, right??????? This is a major mistake.

I completely again with what "thinkinglady" has written. And though I'm not hearing impaired, please bring back closed captions!

Dear Katie, I have been a fan of yours for many years and I congratulate you on your new position on CBS Evening News. I watched the 6:30 p.m. news yesterday and I truly believe you fit this position very well. It seems to suit you actually better than the Today Show. All the best as you grow as Anchor and editor of this program. All the Best! Sue

A promising start on the new format. I look forward to the kind of hard-hitting interviews we've known you could do since the day you ambushed Papa Bush. I like the Free Speech segment. Meeting the Fishbowl crew was a nice touch, but oh, Katie, in this day and age, if a man touched a coworker and messed with her hair, he'd be facing a sexual harassment lawsuit. I notice you touched the guys, but not Katie B. Perhaps it's an old habit -- morning news is vastly more touchy-feely. It all felt a bit forced, but that was to be expected with all the hoopla. I don't get home in time to see the news most evenings, so I'll have to catch it on the Web when I can -- we're too firewalled at work to get the live stream and I'm on the West Coast. Saving for an Ipod so I can get the podcasts. Meanwhile, I'll keep in touch via the blogs and other features. Will cogitate on a sign-off -- want to see the show a bit more to get a better feel for a good, pithy send-off to carry on the tradition of Murrow, Cronkite, Kuralt and Rather. (My favorite is still Linda Ellerbee's "And so it goes...") I miss you like heck in the mornings, and wish you all the best in the evenings.

I watched last night's broadcast with Katie Couric and I thought it was very well done. One thing I wish she had follow-up with questions from the correspondents, but all in all I think a step forward in the right direction

Hi Katie,

I have two sign-off suggestions for you. How about:

'Be safe,go well'... or, 'Safe travels'?

I am very disappointed that the CBS Evening News suddenly stop closed caption the program as of last week.

I am deaf and depend on closed captioning news and programs. I had been watching CBS news over 10 years with pleasure and it was always closed caption.

Did Katie decide to cut back closed caption feature to compensate her huge salary? If so, she is losing over 20 millions hearing impaired viewers.

Please brings it back on!

A big test will be whether Katie asks George Bush a really tough question in tomorrow night's exclusive interview and then follows up with touch follow-up questions.

I am disappointed that the CBS Evening News is no longe a news program but has morphed into an entertainment program. I felt like I was watching a mini-version of CBS Sunday Morning; not the CBS Evening News. I didn't learn anything about what happened in the world today. I suppose I will have to switch to NBC for real news now.

I was hopeful that Katie Couric would prove that a woman anchoring the news at night could still produce a vital, important and serious newscast. I am no longer hopeful. I counted one minute of news that occurred about ten minutes into the broadcast. This "news" program is like a watered-down 20/20, rather like the monstrosity that "Nightline" has become. Is the viewership so stupid, so incapable of digesting actual current events, that we must be fed this ridiculous pablum, complete with celebrity gossip and photos of Hitler and Stalin providing a cliched commentary in support of the government's policies? Is this what we've come to? Why? Because $81 million wasn't enough revenue for CBS News? What's wrong with third place, if you're keeping your dignity?
