A young child injured in a Pennsylvania house fire last week has died from his injuries.

The 3-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition on Nov. 19 after a fire broke out in a home on Wilson Street in Chester just before 9 p.m. In a Facebook post Saturday, Councilman Fred Green shared that the boy had passed away.

According to Green, the boy's mother remains in critical condition.

A balloon release and community prayer are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. on the 200 block of Wilson Street in Chester.

Chester Fire Commissioner John Paul Shirley said last week that the boy was found by firefighters on the second floor just minutes after crews got to the home. His mother was also burned and taken to Christiana Hospital, Shirley said.

Shirley said the fire was placed under control within an hour though it's still unclear how it started.

The fire is under investigation by the Chester Fire Department, the Chester Police Department and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office, Shirley said.
