macusweil_, saxonmor, mommy.... since you are seem so concerned about torture and human rights, where were you when saddam was torturing his people in the basements of his many palaces and killing off his generals and advisors in a state of paranoia ala stalin? Where were you when he was gasing the kurds? The list goes on..

Let me make this simple.. if you go to work to work for A company foe example Microsoft or Mcdonalds, you sign a contract and in that contract you AGREE to certain conduct while working for that company. Within that contract there will be a section that does talk about behavior outside the office or work place...if you DO NOT AGREE OR ACCEPT THOSE TERMS YOU DO NOT WORK FOR THAT COMPANY I E DO NOT SIGN THE CONTRACT. I find it hard to believe this woman did not KNOW her behavior was 'wrong'. Many aof you keep keep bringing up prudishness but that is not the factor. It Relates to PROFESSIONALISM.

Every person in the military is different. We have great leaders and some not so great leaders, people that come from all walks of life. Sgt Manhart may think this behavior is alright but the USAF does not. When she joined she took an oath to follow military law no matter what she was raised to believe is acceptable. People may not like it, but when you join the military you give up many of your own 'rights' so that you can protect the rights of others. Being in the military is not always easy but if you are willing to become part of something bigger that yourself than it is very rewarding. The problem with some woman (and men) in the military is that they are selfish and do not always do what is best for the group. They have not truly put themselves in a military mindset. People say military persons think differently that civilians, and they are right.

"Manhart gives all military females a bad rap and she should be ashamed of herself.

We have to respectfully disagree!
A female finding and living up to her womanhood is something to be cherished.

Those females who want to behave like men "give females a bad rap"!

This article states that Sgt Manhart joined the USAF in 1994. If she gets busted down a rank she may end up being kicked out due to higher tenure rather than this incident. I do not know what she was trying to accomplish by doing this, but i can tell you that as a female in the USAF myself that Sgt Manhart gives all military females a bad rap and she should be ashamed of herself.

Can someone tell me the culture of woman in the US armed forces? I've heard many rumors...
Are they mostly wild, mean, hard working, respectful, etc?

"A Ho in Uniform"
"Uncle Sam will have her do you if you enlist now!" LOL

How is that for a title of her Playboy spread.

Come to think of it, the military might be passing up on a way to increase badly needed recruits for the bush war: Put uniforms on hoes and the young johns will sign up fast. LOL

"if you take an oath to obey a law - then you obey it, or you are punished accordingly.

Who is being 'punished' for the torture going on at the terrorist camp in Guantanamo, say?

Those tortures there did not have to take your "oaths" against torture and the like?
Or is torture allowed by your 'codes'? LOL

We are making a big deal and aim to "punish" over an INSIGNIFICANT AND RELATIVELY HARMLESS case of nudity by a ho in uniform; yet we turn a blind eye to more SERIOUS LIFE AND DEATH ISSUES.

Where is your sense of virtue?

It is only the insecure mind that holds robotically to the 'codes', like one holding onto a mother's breast; but the insecure mind is unable to recognize the worthlessness of 'code'!
